Sugarbush Mountain
Nestled in Warren Vermont on Route 100 North sits Sugarbush Mountain and Mount Ellen. Off the beaten path of most VT mountains, sits this hidden gem. We first visited Sugarbush in March of 2020. Our weekend trip was cut short due to COVID shutting down all the ski mountains. That trip was supposed to be from Friday night through Sunday and although we only rode on Saturday we knew we needed to get back up there to experience it. We went back in March of 2022 for our “Sugarbush 2.0” trip and believe us, it did not disappoint.
What We Loved
The mountain, the views and the events leave nothing to the imagination. In 2020, we were there during the Annual Castlerock Extreme Competition where skiers and riders compete in a downhill race of varied terrain. My daughter did the Junior event that Saturday, it was so exciting. Check out the calendar when you are planning your visit to see what fun events are happening. The outdoor heated pool and two hot tubs were a favorite of ours after a full day on the slopes just to warm up and relax. We loved Ramble’s Bistro & Bar for the breakfast buffet and dinner since it was so close to where we stayed. LESSONS! The lessons were phenomenal. My son loved the instructors he had for the day. They have group half and full day lessons starting at age 3. Advanced booking is highly suggested and they provide lunch for the full day program, all located in School House building.
Did You Know
Sugarbush is open year round with different recreational activities to suit whatever your adventure may entail. It is also a dog friendly mountain. We were surprised to see so many dogs all over the base areas. Fire pits fill the base of Lincoln Peak to relax with hot chocolate while taking break as well as various bars and food cafeterias.
Where We Stayed
While at Sugarbush Mountain we stayed at the Clay Brook Hotel, which had the easiest slope access of all lodging. We had a 2 bedroom condo which is over 1200sqft, plenty of room for the 3 kids and 2 moms. Each family had a bedroom, the living room had a pull out queen sofa along with more sofa seating. A large dining room table and chairs, a kitchen island with seating, two bathrooms, laundry room and plenty of closets really left us wanting nothing. Within the hotel is Ramble’s Bistro & Bar which we were able to reach on the same floor as our room. Which also had a deck overlooking the mountain, courtyard and outdoor swimming pool. There are many choices to stay on the property.
Mountain Stats
Sugarbush has 3 peaks across 2 mountains: Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen. Our first trip up, we only spent time at the Lincoln Peak side. On our second trip we split between the two and, as snowboarders, loved Mt. Ellen. There were great parks for the kids to play in. During this trip they were having a Side Surfers Event where my daughter competed in a boarder cross style race. Sugarbush has 16 lifts, 111 trails across 600 acres with 28 wooden areas and two terrain parks between both mountains. You can check out the mountain maps here.
